The kind who liked to play with dolls, braid her hair, and dream of what she'd be when she grew up.
But Johanna’s childhood was stolen.
Sold by her mother’s boyfriend to strangers—for drug money.
Used, abused, and discarded by people who should’ve protected her.
Not in a foreign country. Not in a far-off land.
But right here—in our own backyard. In Montgomery County.
You’ve probably passed girls like Johanna in the grocery store.
At church. At school. At a stoplight.
But you didn’t see them—because the pain they carry doesn’t wear a name tag.
What does it feel like to be invisible?
To cry out and have no one listen?
To be a teenager… with no safe place to land?
One day, Johanna found her way to the H-Town Dream Center.
Torn, traumatized, and terrified—but still breathing.
And that was enough for us to start.
She was met with open arms, warm meals, trauma-informed counseling, and a new word she’d never truly understood: safety.
She found mentors. People who listened. A community that cared.
And a program—NXT GEN—that helped her begin to dream again.
Slowly, Johanna’s light started to return.
She started journaling.
Smiling.
Singing.
Believing.
📍Before: A trafficked teen, used by others, convinced she had no worth.
📍After: A brave survivor, walking a path of healing, rediscovering her identity and voice.
This transformation wasn’t magic. It was community.
It was faith in action.
It was someone like you saying: "Yes. I see you. And I care."
Johanna’s story is heartbreaking—but it’s not hopeless.
And she’s not the only one.
There are others just like her—right now—waiting to be seen, heard, and rescued.
That’s where you come in.
We’re inviting the community of East Montgomery County and the Greater Houston Area to adopt one of our human-trafficked teens.
Not into your home—but into your heart.
